Congressman Neguse Passes 2nd Bill Through the Natural Resources Committee

Today, Congressman Joe Neguse succeeded in passing legislation through the House Natural Resources Committee that would authorize the first outdoor monument honoring the women's suffrage movement to be installed in Washington D.C. The bill passed by voice vote with bipartisan support following a Committee markup and will now head to the House Floor for a full vote. This bill is the second that Congressman Neguse has successfully passed through the Natural Resources Committee since taking office. The Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act, legislation to preserve approximately 400,000 acres of public lands across Colorado, passed the Committee in June.

Neguse first introduced H.R. 473 in January with the aim of installing Loveland artist Jane DeDecker's statue depicting Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, Alice Paul, and Ida B. Wells in the nation's capital. The bill would authorize the Every Word We Utter Board, located in Loveland, Colorado to select and install the historic monument.

"I am incredibly proud to be on a committee that not only shares my commitment to our country's public lands, but also values the incredible work done by these brave women," said Congressman Neguse. "It is more important than ever for us reflect on our country's legacy of free democracy and inclusion, and I believe this statue will serve as that necessary reminder."

Two other public lands provisions from Congressman Neguse were signed into law by the President earlier this year, the Bolts Ditch Access and Use Act and the Arapaho National Forest Boundary Adjustment Act. Both provisions were included in the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act. Neguse is also working on legislation to protect wildlife and water projects in the Platte River Basin, as well as a bipartisan package of bills to study soil health and regenerative agriculture research on public lands.
